Yarn Along May 9, 2012

Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Joining Ginny again this week. I managed to finish some handknits this week! Can you believe it? Okay, it really wasn't anything I have been working on but a FO is a FO, right? I did finish Mason's Monster--I managed to stitch on the body and arms(they look just dreadful). And I went with no eyes or mouth. I would love to think I did it as part of the Waldorf inspired toys we are playing with more and more. BUT the reality is... you shouldn't seam up your project if you are going to add safety eyes? AHHHH, lesson learned. I see seamless handknits coming off my needles in my future--lots of seamless knits.... I also cast on for a Minion...not for anyone in particular. The patttern details are fabulous.

I did cast on for a Kleen Kanteen holder. It was a super fast knit. I managed to finish it in 2 days, right down to the felting! Can you spot the reason it will not be used much?? I believe the error lies in the gauge..... I am usually spot on with gauge or maybe the reason I have never noticed my gauge is off in the past is that the things I knit are things where gauge isn't really an issue? What if gauge is something I have had an issue with my whole knitting life?!!! Bears more scrunity....
My reading....sigh..... The truth is I have been reading anything that happens to be in my hand lately. A magazine, a  book, a bill.... Doesn't make for lasting reading.
Can't wait to catch up with everyone.

  1. Gauge is such an evil thing. Perhaps your holder can work as something else. Those monsters are cute and I think faceless is even more monster like!

  2. Cool monster - lovely colour.
Acquire a bigger bottle maybe. Very pretty bottle holder.
    Enjoy the FO's.

  3. I love all the little monsters and minions. So cute!

  4. Would it hold a mason jar maybe? I love the colors - I hope you can find a good use for it :)

  5. Your monster is cute. My daughter prefers faces on her things too. I made her some gnomes and she won't play with them until I paint on some faces.

I don't thing gauge is necessarily your problem. It looks like you didn't felt it enough. I blew up your picture and I can still see defined stitches. Fully felted items shouldn't really look knit. You could always try felting it some more.

  6. Grrr.. how frustrating! I would felt felt felt the bejeebers out of it and see if that helps. At least it's a place to start, right?

  7. I love that canteen holder! I hear you on the reading - I've been too busy watching basketball lately instead of really getting into my book. Summer is almost here though, which will lend itself to some good beach reading.

  8. If the gauge hasn't been a problem up to now, I reckon you don't need to worry.

I haven't felted from knitting before, but I've done my fair share of wet felting using wool roving. Some bags are felted in the washing machine and I need to do them several times. It might be worth felting it again, although it will shrink in height too.

  9. oh no! It could have been the wool, maybe it wasn't 100% or they put some kind of chemical in it? I love the color and the style though.

  10. Gauge... argh! It's beautiful anyway. Maybe you can find a different shaped water bottle? ;)

    Blessings, Debbie
