Yarn Along 7/13/2011 My favorite time of the week!

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

This week I have had plenty to read! Not much knitting has gone on. Though I think of picking up my needles constantly. Of a certain KAL I should start! Knitting carries with it a sense of calm. Those needles weld so much power for me. And I have needed the calm that comes with when I pick up my lastest knitting project. The reason- We are looking at houses this past week and trying to choose a house(in our budget) that will fit us all. Needless to say, I have needed to knit more than I could.

The red covered book is my bible(I will send a lucky reader my new to me bible(read the bible in 90 days) if you can tell me why my cover says "Let's roll")-- I am reading it everyday(it takes me all day to read it). I know I know-- alot of information went on in the last sentence! BUT please bear with me! I am on Day 3-- it is going well.  I struggle a bit. I read the beginning (of my reading)the night before, read a bit in the morning and finish off in the afternoon. It is working well for the moment since we haven't had to leave the house. I would like to change it up and read all my reading in one setting but I don't know if I will be able to. I have the biggest fear of getting behind. Once I get behind in my reading, I just know I won't be able to catch up. When not catching up on my reading I am reading Friendship Bread by Darien Gee. It is really quite good! I love reading about friendships between women-- all the people in this book are characters I can relate to. It is the start of a whole new series about the town of Avalon in which these 3 women live in who are baking Amish friendship bread and healing over events in their life with the help of each other. As well as passing their starters all over town! It makes me want to create a starter but then who would I give all those bags too? I am more of a homebody that I realize, I think! I am not the type of person who does chain mail type of things-- I don't want to put another person in an awkward position of saying no nor am I bold enough to ask. But who's to say I won't get the urge to create a starter after the end of the book? We shall see.
I haven't gotten to much knitting accomplished this week. But I am very excited to say that I have done a 1 row buttonhole successfully--twice using Elizabeth Zimmwerman's method! EZ sure knew what she was doing! I have about 10 rows or so before I stop increases-- then the real fun begins-- LACE! Well, enough lace to keep me occupied!
Totally off topic but each week I have received comments to what I am writing and I love them! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR KIND AND THOUGHTFUL COMMENTS! I am truly grateful! I haven't quite figured out how to respond to each comment nor do I know what the etiquette on how I should respond--email or how to add replies to my blog.... What do you all do? How do you handle them?

  1. I actually got an Advanced Reader's copy of Friendship Bread earlier this year and loved, loved, loved it!

I DID make a starter once I finished the book and passed them along to my SnB friends. However, you don't have to do that. You can either not do the last step and just use the starter from then and there OR you can freeze the starter once you split it up.

As far as comments goes, I have it set up so that I receive an email when I receive a comment to my blog. Because I don't usually get a ton of comments everyday, I will respond via email, then copy my reply and paste it as a comment reply on my blog. But you do whatever you are comfortable with.

  2. I totally agree about the calming effect of knitting! It's one of the best parts of knitting :)

Both books sound interesting. I've been intregued by the read-the-Bible- in-X- days things that I've seen but I worry about getting too behind and giving up.
I was thinking about starting a frendship bread too but I also dont know what I would do with all that srarter! I'll have to try those ideas :)

  3. It sounds like you are right on track. You have a wonderful perspective on things and I really enjoy reading your blog!

As far as responding, I see people doing it on their blog but that seems a bit tedious to the one who left the message, having to revisit to see what you responded. So, I like you just haven't addressed it yet... I'll be curious to see where you land.

As far as the Let's Roll... are we just supposed to blindly guess? O.K., you belong to a Harley gang and this is the creed, and you wanted it on your bible cover??

No? Then it came with the study bible and it's a reminder to get rolling and open those pages...

    Blessings, Debbie

  4. Hi! I am visiting from Ginny's blog. When I hear "Let's roll" I think of September 11, a man said it on the plane the went down in PA, but I am not sure why it is on your bible cover. :-) I know house hunting can be stressful. Hope you find what you are looking for soon!
